In a recent announcement, BlackRidge Technology International, a provider of cyber defense solutions, said that Michael Murray, SVP and GM, BlackRidge Cyber Physical Systems, will host a webinar panel-discussion titled “A New and Resilient Approach to Securing Critical infrastructure and IIoT” on Thursday, August 16, 2018. The panel participants include IIoT and cyber defense experts like Bob Lentz, former Department of Defense CISO and current CEO, Cyber Security strategies; Josh Corman, SVP and Chief Security Officer, PTC; and Chris Rezendes, Chief Business Officer, Context Labs, a data management and analytics provider.

The panel will explore the current Government perspective on securing critical infrastructure, the steps companies are taking to prepare to secure critical infrastructure from evolving threats, and the critical role that analytics and data providence plays in addressing insider threats.

Securing critical infrastructure and IIoT requires an integrated, holistic approach to protect against hostile nation states and individual actors that pose serious cybersecurity threats to critical Water, Energy and Transportation Grids, attempting access through the industrial internet.  "If bad actors breach the industrial control systems that operate a grid, they can cause significant economic, societal, and personal welfare damage on a very large scale," said Murray.

"The key to protecting industrial control systems is to secure access from unidentified and unauthorized traffic, create a closed loop system that controls the operation of the grid while maintaining the interoperability of the industrial controls that IIoT provides," said Lentz.  "This is where identity and authentication play the key role to block zero-day attacks."
